Clinical Study of Thyroid Disease

Abstract
The result of clinical and statistical studies about 332 cases of thyroid diseases diagnosed or operated upon during the period of past 10 years and 7 months from Jan. 1962 through July 1972 in the Department of General Surgery, Korea University.
The incidence of the thyroid surgical disease was approximately 92 of 332 cases (27.7%). during 10 years and 7 months, and the thyroid disease most commonly found in the 20-40 years ¢¥with. exceedingly high incidence-in the females (M.F . 9. 7)
Most common symptoms¢¥ and signs were: mass, palpitation, tremor, indigestion, perspiration, nervousness and fatigue in order of frequency.
In clinical analysis of 89 cases thyroid nodules were warm nodules 9 cases(10.3%), hot nodules 17 (19.2%), cold nodules 63 cases (70.5%).
In histopathological analysis of 92 cases of disease of thyroid, congenital anomaly was 4 cases,
inflammation 10, goiter 21, benign neoplasm 28, malignant neoplasm 29, respectively
The operative techniq used in most cases was subtototal thyroidectomy, complete lobectomy
and removal of isthmus.
The postoperative complication of thyroid diseases were recurrent laryngeal nerve palaly sis (3), hemorrhage (2), transient parathyroid deficiency (1), wound infection (1), caryngeal edema requiring tracheostomy (1), and pneumothorax (1).
